On Luck [Athens 2108 daily poem series #1]
I have never been kidnapped and tortured
by anonymous masked men
I have never been captured by mercenaries
and sold into slavery
I have never been violated by a group of stoned teenager soldiers
or paraded, bloodied and broken, as a trophy of their misplaced
manhood
None of my organs have been torn from the living flesh
for the purposes of appeasing an angry god
I have not been shot, stabbed, gouged garrotted or physically mutilated
in any way
I am a lucky, lucky bastard
